A Life Changing Gift - Sachin's Story

Our Christmas Appeal this year is focusing on the work of Aspire and its positive impact on the lives autistic young people and their families in Cambridgeshire.

Here is the difference that Aspire has made in one young man's life:

"Hi, my name is Sachin, I am 19 years old, and I am currently studying Electrical and Railway Engineering at University.

I started attending Aspire when I was about 15 years old. Before I started, I was struggling with my social life and time at school. This had taken a toll on my mental health; I had lots of problems and had hit an all-time low.

At first, Aspire was quite confusing, as it was completely different to my school environment, but it became a nice place to be and I got along with many people.

The atmosphere at Aspire was unthreatening, which was appealing. I was mainly quiet during Aspire, but I did make a good friend there who shared my interest in trains. I still keep in touch with him, and we have worked on some railway related projects together.

I have many good memories, like the food, drawing, meeting my friend, and the residential trip we went on. It was great fun.

Going to Aspire really helped me build social confidence and communication skills. When I left school and started at University, I grew even more confident and found it surprisingly easy to make friends.

Romsey Mill is a really great charity. I feel Aspire helps build confidence for those on the Autism spectrum. The support is outstanding. It's lots of fun and it helped me personally to get through the worst stage of my life.

Thank you to Romsey Mill for all the support it gave me over the years".
