Twelve Days of Christmas - a story for the fourth day...

< Back to listing

Over December, we need your support to raise £12,000 to help young people facing challenges at school, at home or in the community. Together we can give them a fresh start in 2015 - learning new skills, growing in confidence and fulfilling their potential.  Here is a story about how Romsey Mill provides hope, transformation and second chances for young people:

Joe* is a 17 year old dad to Evie* who is 7 months old.  He was finding it difficult to negotiate contact arrangements with Evie’s mum, and as they were no longer a couple, there were disagreements about how often Joe could see his daughter.  Joe attended Thai boxing sessions organised by Romsey Mill’s Young Fathers Worker, Ben Wilkes, which allowed him to meet other young dads and talk about managing his emotions constructively.  Joe works in retail, but takes time out from his job so he can attend a Dads Weekly Group on a Friday afternoon with Evie.  He is a confident, articulate and committed young father, and has been on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire talking about his experiences, and has spoken to other teenagers about the reality of being a young parent.
