Paul* was 19 when he first started attending antenatal classes with his partner. Both parents-to-be had a history of needing social care support, and Paul had recently been released from prison. Paul regretted his time in prison, and the crimes he’d committed, and was focused on being a good partner and father. The family moved into their own house for a fresh start, but sadly the couple separated after the birth of their daughter, and then moved four times over a nine month period.
Despite the upheaval, Paul met regularly with our Young Father’s Worker, Ben Wilkes. Over several months, Ben helped Paul prepare for work through volunteering, job search, improve his literacy skills and offered him emotional support during the break-up of his relationship. Paul now has a job, is being supported with his mental health issues, is in regular contact with his child and has not been charged or had a custodial sentence since.
