Twelve Days of Christmas - a story for the first day

< Back to listing

Rachel* (age 15), has not attended school regularly for a long time, leading to her parents being served with a fine.

Rachel talked to Jon, a Youth Development Worker, about being anxious and said that though she tried to go to school, some days she wasn’t able to leave the house. She confided in Jon about her overwhelming anxiety, and some of the more distressing thoughts she’d been having. After many attempts and with Jon’s insistence, Rachel’s mental health was assessed and it was agreed that her anxiety was the reason behind her non-attendance at school. Rachel is finally getting the therapeutic support she needs and the school is able to manage her situation more sympathetically.
