Hello to Heather

Romsey Mill has recently said a sad farewell to a well loved member of the Aspire team. And has also given an enthusiastic welcome to a new member of staff!

For over 8 years, Avril Timson has been a key part of the Aspire team that works with children and young people with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASCs). But last month, she left Romsey Mill ahead of her marriage later this year, to Brazilian fiancé, Denil.

Avril's role, asYouth Development Worker within the Aspire Programme, has been taken on by Heather Rogers - a familiar face to many of the young people.

Heather has previously been a volunteer for the Aspire programme, working with several of our after school groups for children with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASCs) over the past 4 years.

Heather said: “I really love working with the Aspire team. To see the young people grow in confidence in a setting where they can be themselves, and not be judged is so inspiring.”

Avril Timson reflected on her time with Romsey Mill, saying: "Some of the memories that stand out most to me are the trips and residentials that we did with our Aspire young people. It was great to watch them push themselves and to try new things which many of them hadn't tried before. From going to theme parks and going on some of the fast, scary rides, to Grafham water and trying out some new activities. It was also a great opportunity for the young people to develop their friendships with the other young people that they wouldn't necessarily chat to within their weekly youth group."

Everyone at Romsey Mill has fond memories of Avril too - we will miss her!    So, we say "See you, Avril" or "Até mais" as they say in Brazil!

And we also welcome Heather and look forward to watching her help to grow the work of our Aspire programme.
