Jamie* has been a regular attendee at our music sessions. He has been living at the YMCA for the last two years and our Lead Youth Development Worker Rich met him through detached work there. Jamie had attended the Romsey Mill studio a while ago which helped initiate the conversation.

Rich arranged with Jamie to meet up to talk further about what he wanted to do in life. Jamie expressed that he has had mental health struggles which can affect him a great deal. Knowing Jamie’s passion for music, Rich encouraged him to attend our music sessions. Having done so Jamie expressed how much the sessions help motivate him and give him a sense of purpose as he uses music as a form of therapy to write about what is going on in his life.

Jamie then took part in our Beats, Trials and Tribulations project which has enabled him to develop skills in music production further.
Jamie also showed an interest in youth work and helping other young people that have been through difficult situations like he had.

Romsey Mill ran a Level 2 award in Youth work Principles and Practice which Jamie attended in the winter and he is pursuing volunteering opportunities in order for him to complete this qualification.
