“Step-up has helped me learn things I didn’t think I would get the chance to learn like childcare and lifeguarding. I’ve matured a lot more and am not so childish and my anger has been contained a lot more. It is a new way for us to learn and actually get what we need for life.” Rhian, Year 11 student
“Shannon used to hate mainstream school and made up excuses once or twice a week to get out of going; her attendance was not good. Since attending Romsey Mill it’s been totally different; she’s been happy, cheerful, confident, wanting to go all the time.” Parent of student
Mainstream school just does not work for everyone. Our ‘Step-up’ Programme is dynamic, innovative and designed to support young people aged 14 - 16 who struggle with mainstream education and are at risk of exclusion. ‘Step-up’ offers a range of courses and learning experiences to help young people re-engage with education and to increase confidence, skills and aspirations. Learners leave the programme with qualifications and can then plan their next steps into work, training or college.
